BSTM3A, 3rd place for Senior Category, performing Kadayawan Festival, the Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival in the city of Davao here in the Philippines. Its name derives from the friendly greeting “Madayaw”, from the Dabawenyo word “dayaw”, meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living.
BSTM3C showcasing the Sinulog Festival with their beautiful costumes! The Champion for Senior Category. The Sinulog is an annual festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City, Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Philippines and Balingasag, Misamis Oriental. The festival commemorates the Filipino people’s pagan origin, and their acceptance of Roman Catholicism. The main feature is a street parade with participants in bright coloured costumes dancing to the rhythm of drums, trumpets and native gongs. Smaller versions of the festival are held in various parts of the province, also to celebrate and honor the Santo Niño. There is also a “Sinulog sa Kabataan” performed by the youths of Cebu a week before the parade. Recently, the festival has been promoted as a tourist attraction, with a contest featuring contingents from various parts of the country. The Sinulog Contest is usually held in the Cebu City Sports Complex.
6:30am! We had our parade along Mendiola, you will notice the cloudy and refreshing weather every morning, which is my favorite. Thanks to my friend, Nica for these photos!
This is our section, BSTM3F performing Pintados Festival. The Pintados Festival is a cultural-religious celebration in Tacloban based on the body-painting traditions of the ancient tattooed “pintados” warriors. In 1986, the Pintados Foundation, Inc. was formed by the people of Tacloban to organize this festival in honor of Sr. Santo Niño. Years later, it was merged with the Kasadyaan Festival which is always held on JUNE 29.
BSTM3D with their Ati-Atihan festival, 2nd place for Senior category. The Ati-Atihan Festival is a feast held annually in January in honor of the Santo Niño (Infant Jesus), concluding on the third Sunday, in the island and town of Kalibo, Aklan in the Philippines. The name “Ati-Atihan” means “to be like Aetas” or “make believe Ati’s.” Aetas were the primary settlers in the islands according to history books. They too are the earliest settlers of Panay Island where the province of Aklan is situated. The festival consists of tribal dance, music, accompanied by indigenous costumes and weapons, and parade along the street. Christians and non-Christians observe this day with religious processions. It has inspired many other Philippine Festivals including the Sinulog Festival of Cebu and Dinagyang of Iloilo, both adaptations of the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival.
BSTM3B performing Panagbenga Festival. Panagbenga Festival (English: Flower Festival) is a month-long annual flower festival occurring in Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines. The term is of Malayo-Polynesian origin, meaning “season of blooming”. The festival, held during the month of February, was created as a tribute to the city’s flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon Earthquake. The festival includes floats that are decorated with flowers not unlike those used in Pasadena’s Rose Parade.. The festival also includes street dancing, presented by dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes, that is inspired by the Bendian, an Ibaloi dance of celebration that came from the Cordillera Region. Aside from economic boosts from tourism, the festival also helped the younger generation of indigenous people to rediscover their culture’s old traditions. The indigenous people was first wary with government-led tourism because of the threat that they will interfere or change their communities’ rituals. I congratulate all of us for doing such a great job for this! We’re so great! Especially to my friends in other section who won in this dance competition! Tough one!
These were the lovely candidates for Lakambini ng Turismo 2013, really beautiful! Look how they pulled off all their efforts just for their creative gowns/costumes!
TADAHHHH! Look, The Lakambini Ng Turismo 2013! Ms. Maki Ueta, isn’t she lovely? Congratulations, Ate Maki! So, done with the Senior Category, let me show you the Junior Category. Shall we start?
I can’t remember what section did this. Anyway, the over all champion and the group who have gotten the special award! The Tuna Festival! I was amazed and surprised, well, I already knew that they will be the champion for their category. Everybody was smiling while they are shouting, “WOW! GENSAN!” I even got goosebumps, after their performance, I already congratulate their group. Photo/s of their group while dancing this Festival were even featured in Manila Bulletin newspaper. They were just too great! Dearly brought us to General Santos City! The Tuna City pampers its guests with wide array of tuna dishes and other fish delights. A wide range of dining establishments have popped up elsewhere in the city offering local and continental cuisines to fill your cravings and appetites with satisfaction. Fresh-from-the-catch seafood and right-from-the-harvest agricultural produce are perfectly matched to make a savory and sumptuous array of dishes in its various food outlets and restaurants. General Santos City is known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. Thanksgiving and festivities are being celebrated annually through its “Tuna Festival”. Focusing on its main industry. Tuna Float is an event to taste sumptuous tuna treats during the Tuna Culinary Contest.
LEGAL AND MAGICAL. WE ARE FOREVER YOUNG.18 years of age isn’t really the perfect age to present in this society, but I am very fortunate that I was able to reach this stage. Here I am, presenting myself with class and glamor, just like what a lady or woman should be. We should always bear in mind that every woman must deliver that certain greatness without losing your grace and poise, but still, the fun will always be there.
